Sign saying Kentucky has been home to more significant black horsemen than any other state in the country.
The thoroughbred industry, and indeed the wealth and success found in the bluegrass region today would not exist without their hard work and expertise. The names of nearly 400 black horsemen in Fayette and surrounding counties, laboring in all aspects of the industry, are known and more will be revealed. Many of their stories and accomplishments may be lost but there is little doubt of their significance. They overcame adversity, found great success and rewards, then quickly vanished from public view, and memory, in the early 20th century.

Info about Harry Lewis who is the man in more formal clothing in the painting. 'Skilled trainer who worked as a free man during the era of slavery' i can't make out the rest of the text. I'm sorry.

OK, once again, I took fewer pictures than intended. But I did take pictures in the international museum of the horse. I'm going to make this a thread so I can get the alt text written today and tomorrow.
