The Indigenous Stories of Philosophy project at the University of Alberta is seeking a PhD-level graduate student interested in Indigenous philosophy. If you are interested in Indigenous philosophical perspectives, comparative methodologies in philosophy, and the radical expansion of the philosophical canon, we would like to hear from you regarding your interest in the Philosophy PhD programme at the University of Alberta.

The Indigenous Stories of Philosophy research program aims to help academic philosophers address the significant gap resulting from the lack of rigorous, sustained engagement with Indigenous philosophy in the field and in our collective human imagination. The project is currently funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

The successful applicant will be funded for four years at the same rate as the other admitted candidates to the Philosophy PhD program at the University of Alberta, at $25,000 per year. You will be part of a team developing local, national, and international connections, with access to dedicated training in Indigenous philosophy. This is a chance for an enthusiastic researcher interested in changing the landscape of academic philosophy to pursue higher education.
To be considered for this opportunity, prospective students must apply to the Philosophy PhD program at the University of Alberta (https://www.ualberta.ca/en/graduate-studies/admissions-programs/apply/index.html), and their Statement of Interest must include their interest in working on the Indigenous Stories of Philosophy project under the supervision of Dr. Jorge Sanchez-Perez. The deadline for applications to the PhD program is January 15, 2025. 2026.
