A graph titled "Why finishing a long-stalled task feels worse than expected". The x-axis shows "Time spent half-done" from 0 to 40 days, and the y-axis shows "Feeling when task is finished" ranging from -2 to 4. The graph displays a smooth curve showing that completing tasks that were half-done for less than a week feels rewarding (around +4). As the half-done duration increases, the reward steadily decreases, crossing the zero-reward line at about 15 days. After that, finishing long-delayed tasks actually feels negative, reaching about -2 for tasks that remained half-done for 30-40 days. Scattered data points around the curve represent individual observations with slight variations. A horizontal red line marks "reward=0", and an annotation points to the "Negative reward zone" below this line.

A friend lent me his copy of RAW DATA: Infographic Designers' Sketchbooks - a collection of great infographic designs, with text and sketches by the designers of how they came up with what they did. BRILLIANT ⚡
Matrix showing the combinations of Impact (low -- extreme) of expected weather events and an assessment of confidence (low -- very high) leading to color codes, white - yellow - orange - red

Uncertainty comes to the weather--
Environment Canada has adopted a new color coding 🌈scheme for weather alerts, combining anticipated impact with confidence.
Hey #datavis #infoviz #data #ml folks - sharing a wip preview of something I’ve been hacking on, a spatial visualization of stories in film and tv.

It’s "for my day job", but I'm posting here as a preview to get some feedback, so any thoughts welcome!
The best #Infoviz finds a way to marry clarity, fidelity and legibility to design sense. That last one is the hardest to pull off, but it's lovely to see it...
Thanks to everyone who has submitted to VINCI 2025! Looking forward to great program! Registration is now live at: vinci2025.games.cg.jku.at/registration/ #infoviz
Stained glasses of three square color plots, presumably in the magma colour scale, indicate a high-value (red-white) circle in the centre on a low-value (black-purple) background. In the foreground is a set of stairs going down, as well as suspended station signage and fluorescent lighting.
Some #Montreal #metro stations are boring. Place d'Armes, uncomfortably embedded under the Palais des Congrès, unfortunately falls into that pile. This #StainedGlass #artwork - added in 2017 - is the only decoration in the station (other than the unlit […]

Population density wasn’t the point of this video but it would’ve been cooler if he used an equal-area projection instead. 🗺️

Hi #DataViz & #InfoViz community! I’m a 2nd-year PhD student studying data & info visualization in sports.
What are your favorite academic articles in the field? I’m building my research library & would love to know what’s shaped your thinking! #AcademicTwitter
Kudos to @frank.computer for conveying so viscerally what's still missing from such exemplary work. Instead of blindly relying on automation, every sighted #infoviz expert should invest a minute to watch + listen to this video
Even a little design attention could massively improve this #UX!

Question for #infoviz and #dataviz practitioners. Do you make a distinction between the two? is there a meaningful difference? Or are there conventions here that need to be followed?
A beautiful work of data visualization, The United States Abortion Mazes by Jan Diehm in The Pudding. Mazes show degrees of difficulty woman may encounter in different states. Highly suggest exploring.

Tableau and PowerBI for out of the box walled garden solutions from SalesForce and MS. If you can manage some heavy tinkering and install the backends Metabase and Apache Select are good information dashboards. But if you need lightweight and basic interactions, then I'd suggest Plotly. #infoviz
Some wonderful #infoviz. Fabulous work.
I renamed my list of information and data visualization specialists to the more concise "Infographics specialists". Infographics is a great term that seems to have fallen out of use of late.
To be added, let me know. Reposting helps.

Eye candy for the #dataviz / #infoviz junkies: In 2003 I co-published with The U of C/San Diego Supercomputer Center a poster featuring this amazing snapshot of then-current global internet connectivity. It was a brutal print job: 30K+ gradient hairlines!
Happy drooling.
