reading endoverse fanfiction on geinkolf or maelmaer ao3 #insectica
I never finished it but I started a fake hobbydrama style writeup about a gacha game that exists in the #insectica universe (in a modern au I guess because in my head it typically has the standard dnd setting level of technology)

I couldn't have a xhaita gf. I'm sorry. I have nothing against them and I don't want to be prejudiced but I simply do not have it in me to look into her big wet eyes and kiss her bristly chelicerae

"Just move somewhere else if you don't like living in Sardel" really? Move where? To Insectica? Where I'll just have the same problems except now I'm trying to fend off Daru cultists from the farm instead of Dolobkolf? Get real.

a digital illustration of an anthropomorphic luna moth woman shown in profile flying against the moon. The background is bright blue and airbrushed, while the figure is rendered with a combination of airbrushing and cel shading. She is clad in flowy pale green clothing and is wearing a silver circlet with a crescent moon in the middle. Her eyes are closed.
meant to post this the other day but forgot. An old pic I did for the winter solstice, which in the world of #insectica is also the goddess Phelena's feast day

A grey-skinned, green-haired, muscular elf with fangs and stag beetle antlers in green beetle-themed armor leaning casually on the handle of a scythe, with the blade side pointing down.
Two headshot drawings of the previous elf (Tigo) side by side. In the one on the left her mouth is closed, in the one on the right her mouth is wiiiiide open showing off her big ol choppers. Caption reads "I HUNGER" in a made up language's alphabet (cherjpat runes). the drawing with her mouth open is slightly cartoonier
I bought soulcalibur for the character creator when that was the new hotness and saw they had some buggy stuff you could add so I made a shard elf girl in it. This is Tigo

Rough sketch of an elf from behind, with text noting that "elves will often have vestigial "nubs" where their wings and extra limbs would be." She looks much like a human or traditional fantasy elf, but with a pair of beetle-like horns and, yes, flesh "nubs" or spurs on her back where her wings and secondary limbs would have grown if she had any.
another rough sketch depicting elf anatomy, with another drawing of an elf from behind on the left side of the page illustrating that "some elves may also have scales on their backs; this is mostly seen in night elves [half geinkolf/moth folk] and marked elves [half maelmaer/butterfly folk]. Also, tailnubs are a thing." Sure enough, this elf has colored scales along their shoulderblades and a stubby tail. Their body seems to be covered in short hair and they have smaller, albeit still prominent, horns than the beetle elf. Upper right is a drawing of the waist/hips of a silk elf (half xhaita) with spurs just above their hips and on their upper thighs, with text indicating "silk elves will have a few extra nubs/spurs"
pen and pencil sketch of a shard elf (half cherjpat); she is very muscular, has hair on her arms and sideburns, clawed nails, black sclerae, long, pointed ears, a horn coming out of her forehead, spurs on her waist, short hair, and large tusklike fangs, mirroring a cherjpat's mandibles.
"Elves" in #insectica can have a couple meanings. It can refer to the warm blooded humanoids of the Northwild, Erdeon's northernmost continent inhospitable to most large invertebrate lifeforms, but throughout most of Insectica it typically refers to the hybrid offspring of humans and bugfolk
monochrome brown/yellow binary tool illustration of four anthro beetles. The first, Vulraz the Fallen, is holding an axe and clad in spiky armor. The second, Mutchu the Valiant, stands slightly shorter than Vulraz and is wearing lighter-colored armor and brandishing a sword and shield. The third, Jagei the Wise, is a tall, thin figure in a hooded cloak with his face partially obscured, holding a staff in his rightmost hands and casting magic with his left. The fourth, Kertlau the Small, is shorter and squatter than the rest and is dressed in simple minstrel's clothes with a lute slung over his back.
Zivir, or "The Four", prominent figures of the Cherjpat revolution turned heroes of legend (most of them, anyway.)

Digital illustration of six anthro bee/wasp people drawn in half-body, reading "MELLONA TRIBES" at the top and on a fake yellowed paper background. Each one is captioned with their tribe name. Top row: Estia, based on honeybees; Zom, based on bumblebees; Zethina, based on paper wasps and potter wasps. Bottom row: Yosi, based on yellowjackets and africanized honeybees; Xylos, based on carpenter bees; Vespertine, based on sweat bees.
The six main tribes* of Mellona, the beefolk of #insectica
*that was the term I was using back in the day but is that appropriate?
Some of my #insectica bug guys are based on real species but others are a mishmash/just what I thought would be cool at the time and that's fine
me: I don't wanna talk about war or politics with my worldbuilding stuff I just wanna talk about weird fantasy pantheons and cool monsters
also me: who wants to hear all about the cherjpat revolution and fall of the papillonic empire

quick lil piece of #insectica lore:
Xhaita mostly eat/drink liquids through their chelicerae, and typically raise livestock for blood.
my other reason for falling off it was that I wanted to make every type of bug-person their own fleshed out fantasy race with unique culture and lore, but of course there are A Lot Of Fuckin Bugs In The World and I didn't want people to get mad that I left out their favorites #insectica
Head/bust pen drawing of an anthropomorphic stag beetle with large antlers
head/bust drawing of another stag beetle man, this time with a larger singular horn like a rhino beetle.
a third bug-man bust, clearly based on a ladybug but with sharp, prominent mandibles

digitally-colored illustration of a creature that can best be described as a "lobster centaur", with a lobster lower body and a lobster-man-humanoid upper body. it is bright red.
The same lobster-centaur creature, but bright blue
In addition to the bug people roaming the surface, there are also lobster-folk living in the seas of Erdeon. I previously called them "nephropoids" but that's a bit of a mouthful.

Brush ink and inkwash illustration of a Xhaita resembling a camel spider. Much like Xhereti and Miarma, all Xhaita are essentially spider-centaurs with anthro spider upper bodies (similar to a DnD ettercap. The 4E ettercaps probably resemble Xhaita the most). Like most members of his species, he is clad in white wraps that resemble a spiderweb.
pen and ink illustration of a Xhaita shopkeeper, with her two right arms held close to her and her two left arms outstretched in a friendly gesture. Most of her body is covered in tight wraps, with looser, apron-like wraps over her torso and what would be called an abdomen on a normal spider, but what I will henceforth call a "spider ass" since she already possesses a humanoid abdomen as well. She has a thicker build than the camel spider, and a tuft of manelike hair on her head and on the sides of her face.
digital illustration of a pink xhaita resembling a flower crab spider, clad in similar attire to the shopkeeper.
Examples of Xhaita, the spiderfolk of Insectica and its sister continent Arachnea. While humans are often frightened of their appearance, they are typically a very kind and social people.

illustration of Acheron, demon lord of eternal knight, former consort of Phelena. he is an anthropomorphic death's head moth in a high-collared black robe, with a bony skull-like face and long, pointy proboscis. he is levitating in a seated position, surrounded by a shadowy aura and holding a staff with a golden skull ornament on the end.
Illustration of Naria, Queen of Demons and Goddess of Decay. She is an anthropomorphic bald-faced hornet woman with red eyes, wearing a tattered robe with root-like bands wrapping around it. She wears a crown resembling an inverted pelvis bone and a necklace of phalanges. Two of her four hands are in a prayer-like position, while in her other right she holds a human skull and in her other left she conjures up shadowy magic.
Illustration of Miarma, the "Ogre-Faced Demoness" and wife of Xhereti. Like her wife, she is an anthropomorphic/tauric spider woman, with two massive claws on each foot and clawed, humanlike hands on her arms. She is wearing red wraps around her chest and waist, a black skirt, gold pauldrons on all four of her shoulders, and white mummy-like wraps around her forearms and ankles. Her two upper arms are raised in a menacing position; her lower right hand holds a bowl of blood, and her lower left hand holds a curved dagger. She has three horns atop her head, two of which are decorated with golden rings, and two massive eyes glowing yellow. While Xhereti acts as both a psychopomp and judge of souls, it is ultimately Miarma who inflicts their final punishment, should they be "deserving".
I've got some more. I wanted to try to do a "gamebook", but that fell through for a couple reasons (too much work, not enough ttrpg experience, really just liked writing lore for myself in my own corner)

Illustration of a dark purple centipede with star-like flecks on its shell and two glowing eyes (one yellowish, one blueish) curled around an earthlike planet. This is Erdeon, the Primordial One, the main Creator Deity worshipped throughout the land of Insectica and other continents on the planet Erdeon. Erdeon is the progenitor of all other gods and beings; it is said that its eyes became the sun and moon and its coiled remains became the planet.
Illustration of an anthropomorphic gholden scarab man in ancient Egyptian style clothing, with a sceptre in his two right hands and a lit torch in his upper left. This is Tibri, Insectica's sun god and patron deity to the Cherjpat, Insectica's beetle folk.
Illustration of an anthropomorphic bee woman, wearing a green celtic-inspired dress with gold trim and a honeycomb pattern, a crown of roses, and garlands of roses and cherry blossoms. This is Seira, Insectica's "Mother Goddess" of life and nature, and patron to the Mellona, the beefolk of Erdeon.
Illustration of a grey anthromorphic/"taur" spider woman clad in a simple hooded black robe. Her two upper hands stretch a silver thread, while her two lower hands rest on a wooden walking stick. This is Xhereti, goddess of fate and death and patron to the Xhaita, Erdeon's spider folk.
Posting some old art for #insectica, a personal project that ostensibly started as a tabletop homebrew setting but I think now is more of just a general worldbuilding sandbox for me to play around with no strings attached
