Been running #iocaine on slime.global for a couple days now. Over the last 24 hours 89% of requests have been redirected into the poison maze, and over 2.5 GB of poison have been generated.

I am genuinely shocked at how bad the situation was. I had no idea it had gotten so bad. This is astounding.

Tried to document Iocaine on the IndieWeb wiki, but I can't log in because IndieLogin is flagged by Iocaine for being a fake Firefox and thus served a garbage response instead of the links that power the login. Oops.

I had a particularly mind-numbing exchange with a chatbot today so decided to dedicate spare resources of one of my VPSs to #iocaine. I brought the domain online about an hour ago, and there are already dumb bots in the maze, continuously consuming my bandwidth and CPU.

Upgrading to Iocaine 3, and got a persistent exit code 216 from Caddy. It seems that the iocaine.service must be started before caddy.service, which is not true of other services I reverse proxy with Caddy. Curious.

Yes I’ve heard about iocaine No I will not be running it It does absolutely nothing to slow crawlers down (it’s not like they’re going to wait for a page to finish loading before they move on to the next one, crawlers are super optimized to just constantly grab as much bandwidth as possible in parallel), there’s already so much AI slop on the web that it’s not going to contribute meaningfully to model collapse, and all you’re doing by running it is wasting even _more_ resources. Giving the LLM crawlers more content to slurp up just gives them more reasons to waste even more resources, and only continues the death spiral of making the Internet an even worse place. This isn’t like interfering with scammer call centers through scambaiting or the like. Computers have no problem with having their time wasted. And meanwhile it does nothing to actually solve the problem.
