My choice of magic? Teleportation. I'd still be late everywhere, I bet, but at least I'd get to enjoy more of my time. Also... don't like where I'm at for whatever reason? Instant escape! Buddy in a pinch? it's learned magic, I sure learned to teleport others too

Nova and Chase like both, really. Chase is more inclined towards science of the two.
Thallus has a very unfortunate relationship with magic so he'll choose science.

Yes and no... depending how you define it, Nova will get some mentoring from Chase in matters of shifting, but their relationship is never as simple as that. Was meant to be simple, but writers will understand when I say they hijacked the plot.

I'd argue she's not the MC but It's through her eyes that you'll meet the world, so
Nova has a much finer hearing than she thinks, and can read people's emotional responses instinctively. Doesn't always makes sense of them, but it would be too easy if she did.

Magic system
Since only dragons can wield it, I'll talk about them here. The system is loose and mostly limited by the dragon's imagination, nature and focus. Most dragons cannot create life, although there was one who did twice.

Both.
Dragon shifters are the only ones who can wield magic. Other shifters have some magic-sourced abilities, but they're more traits than skills. Humans have forgotten shifters exist and are unaware of magic, so they are counting on technology.
