We have a text thread with a bunch of friends sharing the ridiculous things we and our kids say.
Today's gem "Most people have an above average number of arms"
Feels like a good time to discuss mean vs mode

I asked the 10yo "what's the date today?"
{Looks at his watch} Sept 16
*What month is Sept?
9
*What about the year?
25
*What's unique about this date/these numbers?
{thinks for a minute} They're all composite numbers?
*True, what's special about these composites?
3*3, 4*4, 5*5

Chapter 7 - Logarithms and Triangles
Does anybody have any examples of a good integrated math curricula?
Every one I've seen feels like they threw the standard curricula in a blender & called it a day.
From a pedagogical perspective, I respect what CPM is trying to do...
but this is a chapter in their Math3 text

Histogram question.
Is there a mathematical convention to be inclusive of the left (or right) boundary?
For example- in this (internet screen grab) is the left "bin" [40,50) or right (90,100]. Anything else would run into boundary problems, no?

#iteachmath (is there an #itaughtmath?)
1. Left the classroom after 20yrs (HS mostly A2-AB), trying to figure out next steps. Teaching is what I know (and was pretty good at), but my heart isn't in it anymore.
2. put the finishing touches on a badass tree house/ office.
