An androgynous one of a kind vintage 1960s 70s handmade copper enamel modernist Face in Profile "Surrealia" design artwork by Janet Hoover of San Diego, California. Janet Hoover was a member of the San Diego Enamel Guild that included such greats as Ellamarie and Jackson Woolley, Kay Whitcomb, Barney Reid, Phyllis Wallen, Joann Tanzer, James Parker, Margaret Price and sculptor/jeweler Jack Boyd. The design of this artwork is a stylized androgynous 'face' from the period that could be a man, could be a woman, actually reminds me of David Bowie a little. Created in greens, browns, beige, and white enamel on a slightly concave copper bowl/plate at center of a quality natural wood frame. Measures 8.25" by 8.25" by 1.5" deep. Weighs about 2 pounds prior to packing. Has original labeling for the artist attached at back as shown, including the title, "Surrealia". Excellent vintage condition.
