Biker B-Movies: Road to Paloma I believe a huge reason I like the old "Chopper Operas" of the 1950's through the 1980's is nostalgia. They are usually filmed in Southern California, where I'm originally from, and I can recognize many of the streets, bridges, and even the buildings used. The old school bikes and costumes were new at the time, and there's usually an interesting contrast between characters dressed by the wardrobe department and actual bikers used as extras.

Russia Turns To Motorcycles In Ukraine While it's common for militaries of the world to use motorcycles, they are normally used in small numbers and either for courier work behind the lines, or by small teams conducting special operations. I recently came across an article about the war in Ukraine though, where Russia is using dirt bikes and quads in blitzkrieg-style assaults. This was something you didn't even see in World War 2, where motorcycles saw peak-usage.

Talking To The Copilot: A.I. Insights On Passion Generative A.I. continues to improve almost daily, and I've been using it as a tool to shorten the path between question and answer. It's strength is in doing the 20-minutes of internet searching I would do, then summing it up, in about 10-seconds. I don't expect it to actually have opinions or to figure anything out, but it really surprised me the other day.

Prowling and Ghost Towns: Desert Doings It's interesting how things unfold. It feels like nothing has happened since the last update, though quite a few things happened. Perspective is everything. Meeting new people and having several of them mention that I must have a lot of stories and my life seems really wild reminded me that this my "business as usual" isn't very "usual." Part of why I document my travels is actually so I reflect on them and let them sink in a bit.

Empty Reflections I just saw this article on the BBC's website about a photograph. It was eventually used by an article called "The Big Empty," which shared photos of how empty things were during the pandemic and lockdowns. This particular picture was taken in February or 2020, very early on, but in Beijing, where people were staying home even before the lockdowns became literal.

I think it was 2010 when Gina and I were racing Pikes Peak and Malcolm Smith was there to support his son. He came over several times to offer his wisdom and to remind me to look after Gina.
Malcolm was an interesting guy. So much life packed into one lifetime, but an approachable person.
