Beneath it are 2 other books. One red & one green SHORT STORY He was supposed to be revising for exams, but the books remained unopened. They just sat there, lifeless, on the desk in front of him. Toby picked up a book. He tried to concentrate on it, but his mind kept wandering. All he could think of was her. Ashleigh. That last night they were together. The night before her accident. He put the book down and just sat there at his desk. His sad eyes gazed at the evening sun. Purple hues filled the sky as the sun sat just above the hilltop. Toby wiped away a tear. He couldn’t stop thinking about that night. How he’d messaged her earlier that day and asked if she fancied a curry or pizza. Her reply was “Pizza. meet u at the plaza at 7” She never got there. Driving home from work in the pouring rain, poor Ashleigh lost control of her car. It skidded off the road, down an embankment and crashed into a tree. Although Ashleigh survived, her injuries were life-changing. She was once so independent, but now she needs a whole team of people to do even the simplest things. One thing Ashleigh is, though, is a fighter. This is just another battle that the warrior inside her has to face and she wants to do it with Toby by her side. Toby doesn’t think he can do it, though. He doesn’t think he’s strong enough. As he wipes away another tear, he realises that he’s got a lot to think about.
