This was not the outcome anyone wanted.
May they have peace and justice.

Edited picture of Leah Baker framed by flowers and leaves, her life dates, her name, and the Jacksonville Community Action Committee logo.
Text reads: Leah Baker, 29-year-old mother, was shot and killed by Jacksonville sheriff officers E. Meckling and J.C. Noble during an extreme mental health crisis. After arriving at the scene, Leah stabbed one of the officers with a kitchen knife. In retaliation, officers shot Leah seven times. After Leah fell from the gun shots, a police dog attacked her before JSO officers approached to take the knife away. Leah was already clearly injured, no longer standing or attempting to approach officers.
Text reads: Leah's, roommate and mother were aware of her declining mental health; Leah had recently been in a facility. Her family and friends frequently tried to intervene to help and support. Leah who was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, but these conditions need professional medical attention.
JSO's code of conduct states they have a duty to protect all citizens. While we acknowledge the imminent danger, Leah posed to herself and others at the time, there were many counter techniques that could and should have been used to disarm and get support for Leah instead of executing her. JSO has a duty, as outlined in their code of conduct, to protect and serve all citizens not be judge, jury, and executioner. Leah deserved treatment, to get well and raise her child, and to grow old - not to be taken from this world for being in distress.
My heart is hurting today as I was reminded yesterday was the 4 year anniversary of my cousin's death. The Jacksonville CAC made this to ensure her story isn't forgotten.
Miss you, Leah. You deserved better. 💚
