Charlotte Brontë - Napoleon and the Spectre Charlotte Brontë wrote “Napoleon and the Spectre” in 1833, when she was 17. The story is taken from the manuscript of her novella The Green Dwarf. In its original context, the tale is overheard being told by “a little dapper man” to a group of Frenchmen at an inn (1996, 127). When it is finished, Napoleon himself enters the inn and arrests the little man for having recounted such a “scandalous anecdote” (1996, 130). Although extracts from the story appeared in a literary journal in 1897, it was not published in its entirety until 1919, when Clement Shorter printed a limited edition for private circulation. It was published for a wide audience for the first time in The Twelve Adventurers and Other Stories (1925) and has since appeared in editions of Brontë’s juvenilia and in various short story anthologies. Pérez había traducido #LaabadíadeNorthanger y también tradujo #LadySusan, #LosWatson, #Sanditon y #Amoryamistad (la novela epistolar corta, no la selección de obras del 2o vol de la #Juvenilia donde aparece) también para #AlianzaEditorial, bajo el título de Lady Susan y otras novelas.

En este 2025, aparece nueva edición de @grantravesia.bsky.social y #OcéanoMéxico y nueva #traduccióncompleta de #Juvenilia, la #traductora dice en el #Epílogo que es "la primera traducción completa de los tres volúmenes que se publica en español" y en su Nota 62 enlista algunas ediciones anteriores

Hace 4 años, en 2021, la editorial Edimat lanzó su colección #ObraCompleta de #JaneAusten y en el 1er tomo aparece la la 1a edición completa en #lenguaespañola de las #obrasjuveniles de Jane Austen, también llamada #Juvenilia, junto con #Orgulloyprejuicio.

Her head is too big and hands too large but the artist was 15, okay?

Omni, 2003, oil on canvas board, 22x30in. A painting of a nude bald black man sitting on a wooden chair in profile and slightly turned away, reading a book under a strong light, haloed in dark strokes. I'm not sure what made me bring this painting home from RISD several years after painting it, but I remember this distinctive model.

#art #juvenilia archaelogically unearthed at my parents', Part E: figure paintings. I've grouped these to catch the minimum labels. It still sticks with me that my catty friend called that first one "nearly pornographic" - I think these are all early manifestations of my distinctive mature style.

Couple more #art #juvenilia - exceptional charcoal figure drawings! I had a teacher that told me to keep even my earliest figure sketches so I could see my progress and I have to admit it was useful to do that (storage is a privilege).

I did a whole lot of putting oil paint on various surfaces regardless of archivability, and a little trying to use other kinds of paint. My greatest sin is the amount of turpenoid fumes I've exposed other art students to, probably.

Drunk Rebecca, 1998, charcoal pencil and watercolor on paper, 22x30in. This was during class and she was a teenage camp counselor so I doubt she was actually drunk for this pose.
