Burial cist and part of the surrounding stone circle at Temple Wood in Kilmartin Glen, Argyll. The site was in use for over 2000 years (between 3000 and 1000 BC), and is part of a remarkable prehistoric landscape. #TombTuesday #Prehistory #KilmartinGlen #Argyll

This was taken a long time ago, but if my memory serves me right it’s the interior of Nether Largie South cairn at Kilmartin Glen. It’s a wonderful place…

Carnasserie Castle. The image shows a view up a grassy slope which has a grey stone castle on top of it. The tower house is at the right end of the castle, nearest the top of the slope, and more buildings can be seen receding to its left. The scene is in sunlight.
Carnasserie Castle, one of the more recent historical attractions in the amazing Kilmartin Glen in Argyll. It was built from 1565 for Bishop John Carswell and fell out of use after being attacked in 1685. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

While travelling back from the Hebrides last year, we chatted briefly with a Scot we met. We mentioned we were visiting neolithic sites and he suggested we take a detour on our way back home to visit Nether Largie at Kilmartin Glen. Well worth the diversion.

#Ormaig #CupAndRingMarks Not my photo but I love the megalithic art. Loads in Scotland and around Europe. No one knows why people spent an awful lot of energy carving these all over the place. #Scotland #Argyll #MegalithicArt #KilmartinGlen
"[The carvings] are the first in the UK located alongside prehistoric cup and ring markings found throughout #KilmartinGlen.
The #deer were found by Hamish Fenton, an amateur archaeologist from Oxfordshire who was visiting the area, and who was exploring #DunchraigaigCairn ..."
