Government launches investment in support for kinship carers £126 million of support confirmed for family members such as grandparents, aunts and uncles who care for relatives’ children in new pilot scheme.

We welcome the government's announcement today of investment in support for #kinshipcarers, who play a vital role in providing loving, safe homes for children in their family whose parents are unable to care for them full-time.

Last week, I attended Kinship’s reception in Parliament to hear directly from kinship carers about the vital role they play, and the gaps in support they still face.

The Government’s parental leave review must finally address paid kinship care leave. #KinshipCarers #ValueOurLove

Making work pay for kinship carers Our new research strengthens the case for paid kinship care leave ahead of the government’s review of the parental leave system.

Our research found that nearly half of in-work #KinshipCarers left employment when they took on the care of a relative or friend's child, and 8 in 10 of them have never returned to paid work. A lack of statutory paid leave is pushing them into poverty and the benefits sytem unnecessarily.

Tell Chancellor Rachel Reeves: kinship carers can't pay with love When a kinship carer steps up to raise a family or friends' child, they do it with love. But love alone is not enough to pay for the extra costs they need to cover to raise a child: food, school unifo...

Kinship carers are struggling to pay for the extra costs of raising a child. Most don’t get any financial support. This is unfair. Using kinship.org.uk 's simple template, email Rachel Reeves MP and tell her why #KinshipCarers need better financial support⏬

Today I marched with #KinshipCarers on the Treasury to call for financial support that reflects the cost of stepping in to look after a child when parents are not able to. It was great to meet and speak to kinship carers from across the UK and understand more about what they do

It was great to march with #KinshipCarers today, who have stepped up overnight to care for the children in their lives. It’s time the Government listens to their call to #valueourlove and give them financial allowances

Had an incredible morning with #KinshipCarers who marched to the Treasury to call on the the government to invest in financial support for kinship families ahead of the Spending Review.

Thanks to all those MPs who came out to speak with kinship carers about why they were campaigning. #ValueOurLove
