One of my ideas for Mantikora in her growing-in-the-tank stage is that she'd had this team of scientists overseeing the process, and was able to "haunt" one of their computers saying hello via some glitch that is too specific and explicit to be an accident... Years before awakening... Possibly saying hi to her favorite caretaker who didn't even know she's being perceived as a mother figure.
AAAND honestly now that I think of the scientists and carers in those labs!!! It's probably impossible to not feel like those lab-grown ppl are basically family to them emotionally. Making it really somber and painful that once those lab-growns wake up, the world is.. Well.. Cruel.. There are familial bonds that are broken in the process, due to how these cyborgs are only viewed as tools/weapons as a social class. <\\3 I imagine Mantikora very much saw one of these scientists as her mother. Possibly said scientist used her own genes in creating her? Manti doesn't fully get to experience knowing or being with her, never getting to really emotionally settle with any person. We give this girl abandonement issues from the beginning.
For Manti too, I think most people working in that lab would definitely be long-ago-desensitized to viewing these lab-growns as much else than pragmatic tools. We're talking about a very emotionally detached environment. Manti's attachment to that one person would be because she was an exception to that norm + the genetic link too. Even at that? This scientist was doubtful. She knew what the protocol was, knowing what she'd been taught. It was a deep sensitivity to a connection she couldn't ignore and that kept haunting her. Mantikora kind of tapped into this, her early self trying to connect. It's somber story of basic human experience being blocked by a system that has dehumanized the ppl in it. 💔
The angst and sadnesss liker in me loves the tragedy of repressed human connection in this scenario. There's lots of what-could-have-been, lost beyond a thick veil of a dehumanizing social conditioning and following the protocol of the operation. Lingering sorrow, - for many unaddressed and taken to the grave without ever speaking of it.
Mantikora early life lore making me emotional... @ritroxart.bsky.social helped me understand how these cyborgs from the same tech and lab as Ava begin their lives grown in the tanks.
I like the idea that tank-growing Manti formed an attachment to one of the scientists.
