Maria was one of two major ships ordered by King Hans of #Denmark (1482-1513). It was then rated one the world's largest warships.

These 18th century models of figureheads were made for approval before they were carved in full size. Some figureheads were so large and heavy that they compromized the ships' sailing abilities. Sounds something out of fantasy novel, but true.
