Sometime after the seventh or eighth carton, Kei started lingering around longer after practice. Not obviously; just a few extra minutes on the bench, thumb ghosting over his phone screen without really reading anything. Like clockwork, the sharp squeak of the faucet shutting off would make his spine straighten, as if he’d been summoned. Pavlov’s dog, he thought bitterly, conditioned by strawberry milk and Kentarou’s routine. He wasn’t sure if the dog epithet only applied to Kentarou anymore. “Here.” Kentarou’s voice was rough, like always, reverberating from his throat like the hum of a motor. The familiar cold press against his nape. Kei didn’t even rip his focus from his phone as he grabbed the box, huffing out a little breath. “Took you long enough,” he muttered.
