Candyfloss Campgrounds

A fine evening to be sitting outside the camper by the lake, watching the clouds.
I hope they all were!

Moon Lake Sonata

A nice wee 30 second scene of Lake Pukaki lit by moon and storm's end.
So peaceful and calm in the night.
Oh yes. And blimmin' cold!

Drying grass makes up the backdrop to a deep brown rose branch entering the photo from the right. The branch has smaller green- and yellow-leafed twigs, and dozens of bright red rose hips catching the eye.

Something different from my usual photography subjects, because this spray of wild rose hips popping off the drab late autumn drying grass at the south end of #LakePukaki just really caught my eye.

Candyfloss Skies

Picture yourself on a beach by a lake side
Glacier-fed blues and candyfloss skies
The camera it calls you, you click it quite slowly
A boy with the world in his eyes.

Photography. A breathtaking color photo of a glacial landscape in New Zealand in winter. The aerial view shows the branching glacial Tasman River on the South Island as it flows over the glacial moraine into Lake Pukaki. The branching thin channels of the Tasman, Godley and Cass rivers form a breathtaking tapestry of turquoise hues against the snow-covered landscape. Like a painting, the different shades of turquoise flow in long, gentle waves from the top to the bottom of the picture, where they merge into a narrow strip. Prominent snow-capped mountains (Aoraki/Mount Cook) appear in the distance, majestically framing the terrain. A breathtaking photo in the colors blue/turquoise and white with a certain drama and a skillful perspective that makes the picture appear almost two-dimensional.
Info: The multi-award-winning photo was taken by Stuart Chape. He specializes in aerial photography of landscapes from helicopters and light aircraft, but portraits as well as documentary and social photography are also an important part of his portfolio. The blue coloration of the water in the photo is caused by the refraction of light on fine particles of silt or "glacial flour" in the water, created by glacial erosion.

#LakePukaki, #NewZealand is known for its stunning blue colour.
Finely ground rock particles suspended in the water from glacial erosion reflect blue light.
