I'll try to rattle off some easy ones though. I align really really strongly with the idea of Leon and Francis being generational parallels of their parents, so I tend to imagine Leon being raised to be the Man Of The House as the eldest twin whereas Francis is more of a momma's boy (this is related to Leon learning hunting and surgery skills from his fathers whereas presumably it was Francis that their mother wanted to be a priest). The parallels between the parents and children is kind of at the core of all of my leonfrancis headcanons.
I also align strongly with the merge theory at the moment; that is, the theory that at some point, Leon and Francis merged bodies and consciousnesses, presumably an attempt by Leon to help his sickly brother. So again, you'll see me allude to that with sentiments of "becoming one" (yes this includes sex) and drawing parallels to the idea of twins being split spirits. ![[2/3] Aside from the more conceptual stuff tho, I like to think about how their childhood would have been; I like to imagine their house is somewhere rural and secluded, and the family mostly spends time with each other, only occasionally going into town or meeting with neighbours. In the game it seems like they live near a forest (re VHS 2 and all the hunting motifs in the house), so I imagine Leon and Francis spent a lot of time out there, exploring and finding animal bones and making little forts of branches and foliage. My friend Sica and I talked once about how they might have had a habit of trespassing onto their neighbours property and subsequently have warning shots fired at them, or how Leon would maybe lug around one of those huge VHS camcorders making "documentaries" of what they find in the forest.
Uhh after all the stuff with their parents, I personally headcanon thats when Leon's drinking habit starts. I think it's just as likely the drinking could have started after the fall of the basilica but I really like the idea of Leon struggling with it in secret while at the basilica lol. include that. It mostly started because aforementioned friend Sica put me on to it but again, the parallels to the parents kind of just strengthened it for me. If Francis is meant to take on the role of his mother then why can't that include his gender? I flip-flop on Leon being cis or trans, I've written both, Hike both. If I'm writing leonfrancis I tend to think of him as cis just because //waves hand// realistic twin biology but like.
Whatever man I like anything.
If you want the real delirium, there's a whole alternate au in my head where Leon never performs the merging surgery and never goes to the basilica and instead he and Francis kind of just get mind-broken by their circumstances and lean into the cycled roles of their parents as a means of survival and become horribly codependent on each other and convince themselves they love each other the way their parents did.
