Weekly Wednesday Wisdom ~

Today's featured artwork is, "Hold Onto Your Hope" a 36x48" Acrylic on Canvas completed earlier this month in March 2025. This artwork is being delivered later today to Baldwin's Gallery [26 E. King St, 2nd Floor, Lancaster, PA, 17602] for the "Let Me Show You Something" Exhibition. The artwork's title is derived directly from the lyrics of 'Optimistic Voices' from The Wizard of Oz. In the movie adaptation, Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion are leaving the forest and see the Emerald City beyond the field of poppies as you hear:

"You're out of the woods
You're out of the dark
You're out of the night
Step into the sun, step into the light
Keep straight ahead
For the most glorious place
On the face of the Earth
Or the sky

Hold onto your breath
Hold onto your heart
Hold onto your hope
March up to the gate
And bid it open..."

Artist's Statement / Backstory: I've felt compelled, for quite a while, to create a poppy artwork; however, I knew it needed to be uniquely my own. To create my poppy I used dried paint and other leftover paints to create the textured area in the center of the flower and the concentric rings coming out from it. After building up those textured areas when I later began adding the layers of flower petals it further added to the depth I was hoping to achieve with this artwork. I also pushed myself in a different way with this artwork as it's the largest artwork I've ever created on canvas at three by four feet.!! Each time I went to begin working on the painting I could hear Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch saying, "poppies" in my head and referencing the movie in titling the artwork was then necessary...
