This past Sunday, Palm Sunday, we were invited to create artwork during the reading of the Passion at Trinity Lutheran Church. A portion of the scripture that was read was Luke 22:32 wherein Jesus says, “But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” To name this artwork, I paraphrased a portion of what Jesus is saying to Simon during the dispute at the Last Supper. I’m happy to be sharing today's featured artwork: “May Your Faith Never Fail” a 24x36” Acrylic on Canvas created in April 2025.

Artist's Statement / Backstory: I spent time in quiet reflection on the Passion to prepare for this artwork and all the references to time of day kept jumping out at me. Starting right at the beginning of the passage with, “When the hour came…,” then during Jesus’ arrest he talks of the hour when darkness reigns, during Peter’s betrayal there is a mention of firelight and the crowing of the cock, during the crucifixion there is mention of noon specifically, and then darkness covered the earth for three hours. I kept returning being bombarded with the images of day and night or light and dark; so, with this piece I worked to encapsulate the battle between those two!
