It has me eying how we've overcorrected as a community moving from "there are no bad planets/placements" to "Saturn and Mars are always the worst and detriment/fall placements are evil!" It's making me understand why the psychological astrology movement threw the terms away in the first place. As a traditional astrology lover, I find them essential but some of y'all can't be trusted with their nuance or layers 1/4

It's a post from Wordwitcher: Malefic, benefic, domicile, detriment, exaltation, fall and peregrine placements all have boons and banes. The exhaustive refrain of "the whole chart matters" is constantly crowed for a reason. Saying "Mars will always cause harm" is not only reductive, it ignores factors like night chart individuals having more finesse with it and how those who are Mars-ruled may show up in another's chart as represented by the planet. Mars isn't one note. The same goes for Saturn and every other planet. 2/4

It's a post from Wordwitcher: Only ever providing the extremes or starting with them in delineations is irresponsible and misleading. It's the equivalent of shock-jock astrology, which is why you'll often see large accounts doing it. It'll get a lot of attention quickly, because the extremes are harrowing and loud. This isn't to say malefics can't absolutely wreck havoc (they can), but they function well beyond that, giving challenges that inspire drive, passion, tenacity and a willingness to commit to something lasting. 3/4

It's a post from Wordwitcher: When you're facing off with them in your own chart, transits and synastry, listen as they question. Mars is asking, "What are you willing to fight for? Is it a fight you can win?" Saturn is asking, "What are you willing to work to build? What will you sacrifice in the process?" Needs must and the malefics *will* make us remember that. But as a malefic-dominant person myself, I'm unconvinced that's always a bad thing. The gravitas of tough times can teach us who we are when we let it 4/4
