The @glenpeters.bsky.social @mattburgess1.bsky.social exchange on the economic development / CO2 mitigation nexus has me recalling #malmitigation and #maladaptation discussions awhile back.

Recalling discussions of both #maladaptation and what I call #malmitigation. Both absolutely exist and are often intertwined. Great #sustainwhat conversation on this awhile back with @stacydvandeveer.bsky.social @geoffdabelko.bsky.social @kimsuiseeya.bsky.social youtube.com/watch?v=oGANa0FP_QY

Yes! Hugely important to make CO2 mitigation policy equitable, as Johan Rockstrom, @geoffdabelko.bsky.social @stacydvandeveer.bsky.social @destenie.bsky.social and many others have stressed on #sustainwhat. The alternative is #malmitigation (ugly twin of #maladaptation) Background in thread 1/

Yes to a mechanism making climate action equitable. Developing countries and poor communities within rich countries need to be shielded from costs attending #energytransition (as per Rockstrom @destenie.bsky.social @geoffdabelko.bsky.social and others. Avoid #malmitigation. 1/2

Yes and an equally disturbing issue is what I like to call #malmitigation, where emissions policies (mostly driven by wealthy cabonized states) can blunt development & resilience in #LDCs (particularly those with domestic fossil supplies. Discussed with @geoffdabelko.bsky.social couple COPS ago. 1/
