After the Seventh Umbral Calamity, Mara trained as a lancer under her adoptive brother Ul’dren’s guidance, but ultimately found she had an affinity for magic that she wished to explore. Her adventure begins when she sets out to learn the art of thaumaturgy.  Her style of fighting is a little more unconventional; her lance doubles as a staff and she tends to weave her magic through it and her attacks. Mara prefers to get up close to her enemies rather than staying back and out of danger— in contrast to what she is taught at the guild. She also has the ability to cast without a focus and tends to do so, not really heeding any warnings against it. She is an adept mage from the start, catching Lalai Lai’s attention early before going down the path of Black Magic.  She meets Alberic and Estinien when first venturing into Coerthas, where the Eye relic resonates with her. This leads her down the path to learn how to fight as the second Azure Dragoon. Not only does she switch between the two disciplines in battle, but will often combine the skills she has learned to try and give herself the upper hand. Her magic is quite powerful and she is considered one of the strongest mages in Eorzea. This, alongside her dragoon abilities, helps add to esteemed Warrior of Light's prowress and fearsome reputation in battle. A little known fact however, is that her magic is often affected and fueled by her emotions, meaning she is using dynamis as well as aether to wield her destructive power. It is something even Eorzea's Chamption is barely aware of herself…

Kit's background is very similar to Mara's - he was with her at Cartenau, but also lost his memories the same way she had (he remembers no one before waking up and no one remembers him). Unfortunately he ended up in a much worse situation than Mara, where 🧵

Mara stands in Southern Thanalan, her back to the viewer as she overlooks the dusty landscape of Broken Water. There are Sabotenders roaming the desert.

Trudging through the sands of Amh Araeng in the Fields of Amber, Mara glances at the Gigantenders and Desert Armadillo creatures that live here.

As dawn rises over Shaaoloani, Mara and Erenville stand in the Yawtanane Grasslands, while a group of Napolitenders and Lunyucaua'pya wander the lands before them.

In the first image, she stands before Phillia at Holminster Switch, pike in hand as she looks over her shoulder while the Lightwarden lays defeated in front of her. In the second, she is leaping through the air in Lyhe Ghiah, swinging her greatsword with one arm towards Titania in a final burst of might and magic to defeat the King of the fae. The third, at the edge of the Qitana Ravel, Eros lies defeated before Mara, who is crouched on one knee as she finishes an attack with her handgonne. In the fourth image, in the depths of Malikah's Well, Storge's wings and feathers flutter about as Mara stands before the Lightwarden, a hard expression on her face. The fifth and final image is atop Mt Gulg at Vauthry's sanctuary as Mara stabs a rapier engulfed in flames through Innocence in order to defeat the final Lightwarden and return night to the First... In each picture, the Warrior's bright ginger hair becomes noticeably lighter with each Lightwarden's defeat. It is almost pure white by the time she defeats Innocence.

The changes were subtle at first, but with the defeat of each Lightwarden, the Warrior became more distant, more withdrawn. But nothing was more apparent than the way the colour faded from her hair...

Mara is found sometime after the Battle of Cartenau in a coma and is taken care of by a healer named Ul'sanna. After waking up, and after a few months where no one comes looking for her, Ul'sanna offers to let Mara live with her.

A gpose visual novel with two panels. The first shows a picture of Northern Thanalan, the gates of Castrum Meridianum in the distance. An unknown voice exclaims, "'Tis fortunate the Flames have allowed us to visit." The voice is revealed to belong to a miqo'te woman named Ul'sanna, as she stands in the battlements of the Ceruleum Processing Plant. "'Twould be nice if we could venture further than this, though..." she says, eyeing their escort from the Immortal Flames with displeasure.

Ul'sanna looks annoyed, clicking her tongue disapprovingly, before she speaks to the young hyuran woman she has brought with her. "The battle itself was further beyond... but you were found near here not long after."
