a HUGE vintage 1940s handmade sterling silver Japanese style Fish in Waves design brooch created by Margot van Voorhies for Los Castillo in Taxco. From her earliest days in Taxco while married to Antonio Castillo, and an outstanding example of her design aesthetic! Probably one of her greatest designs from this early period, and in a statement-size do it won't be missed when worn! Entirely handmade highly detailed magnificent Fish wrapped in Waves and bubbles design brooch no doubt inspired by Japanese art - a true piece of wearable art! Measures just under 4" wide by 3.75" tall, and weighs a super hefty 48.6 grams total! Marked at back as shown, "Los Castillo Taxco Sterling Mexico" with design number "497", an early Margot design from her first design period at Los Castillo. One of her rarer designs while at Los Castillo, I've only seen a couple other examples of it in the past 45+ years! Generally, I don’t polish vintage silver except for the lightest dusting to bring out the highlights, but leave the decision to the new owner how much or how little to polish. I haven't touched this one as it's so beautiful just the way it is! Excellent vintage condition.
A huge and very rare Margot brooch design in sterling silver for Los Castillo Taxco circa 1940s - delightful Mexican Art Deco with a Japanese twist!
