Maritime forests are wooded habitats located near the ocean — higher than dunes, but within range of salt spray. In this photo, the stately live oak frames in the chapel roof. It is draped with lacy spanish moss. Below, a bit of sunlight illuminates the lighter, brighter green of a saw palmetto.
