After a thaw and refreeze, the pond in the middle of a large wetland has melt circles in the snow covering the thin ice. Barren hardwoods and shrubs surround the pond. The snow has all melted except on the pond ice.
The wetland has polka dots this morning! 😄

We live near a green space that also functions as a flood plain for a river. And when the snow melts and the Spring rain comes that area also floods a little... The plants that grow there can tolerate having waterlogged roots.
Sunrise over a dark swamp reflecting in calm water, featuring silhouetted bare trees against a vibrant gradient sky of orange, yellow, and purple hues.
A serene sunrise over a marsh with silhouetted trees reflected in the still water. The sky transitions from blue to orange and yellow, with the dark trees and their mirrored images creating a tranquil, natural scene.
A view across an estuary at sunset. The sun has just set behind the houses on the other side of the estuary. The river runs across the lower third of the frame, with muddy tidal flats on either side of it. The sky glows orange around the sun, fading to blue-gray at the top of the picture.
A very wet, muddy path leads through a gap in the trees to a marshy sheugh. On a good day it would be called a pond but today it's so sodden it appears marshy.
Nice bit of (surprisingly cold!) #MarshMadness today.

A winter wetland in a small creek valley created by beavers. In the foreground are a mix of deep snow and dry tall grasses. In the mid-ground ice with a thin layer of water on top. Into the distance is a collection of dead trees: standing trunks 20-30 feet tall with bare side branches, and roots in the flooded land.
March means winter marshes around here…

A murmuration of brant geese (aka brent geese). We thought at first they must be starlings because of the way they were moving.
