A black-and-white photograph of the face of the matilija dam in Ojai California showing the top of the damn notched about 1/4 of its height across most of its width. At the left of frame a large piece of graffiti extends from the top of the dam all the way to the bottom with a painted on “cut here“ dashed line with a scissors graphic. The dam was built in 1947 but very quickly the reservoir filled with silt so it has been functionally useless for at least the last 40 years. Many long-term research projects into the removal of the dam have been conducted but so far only the notching has been completed.
