The detail in this one is amazing, and it is even dated as May 16, 1851. Railway travel began in the mid 1830s in Nova Scotia, mainly to transport coal. This is probably what she was depicting in this scene.

I love the reflection she was able to get in the water. Remember those gnarled hands? Now look again at the detail here. I am curious to know if the woman in the scene had her dress blown near the water, or if it had more of a symbolic meaning.

Entitled, "Yellow Birds" from the early 60s. I suspect Maud spent a lot of time in nature, observing. Wouldn't she had been a wonderful illustrator for children's books? Perhaps that is why I have fallen in love with her spirit and work.
