Detroit's first mayoral forum marks next step in race to succeed Mike Duggan Detroit's first mayoral forum for the August primary will be livestreamed starting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, marking the next phase in the race to succeed Mayor Mike Duggan. The forum is taking place at the Riverside Marina, 11000 Freud Street on Detroit’s eastside, and is slated to end around 3 p.m. The confirmed candidates at the forum are businessman Jonathon Barlow; former Detroit Police chief James Craig; City Councilman Fred Durhal III; former Council president and CEO of THAW Saunteel Jenkins; attorney Todd Perkins and current City Council President Mary Sheffield. The African American Leadership Institute organized the event along with the United Precinct Delegates and the Supermajority groups. Over 200 people RSVP'd for the event, organizers said. A number of mayoral forums are slated in the coming weeks, including three next week. The AFL-CIO union is the sponsor of a Tuesday night event at the IBEW Local 58 in Corktown. On Thursday morning, the group Detroit Moves hosts a forum at the NewLab at Central Station. On Friday night, The Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority hosts a forum in Corktown. The mayor's race is particularly competitive this year because three-term Mayor Duggan is leaving office to run for governor of Michigan as an independent. Two current Detroit City Council members, along with a former council president, a former police chief, a renowned Detroit minister and an attorney, are among those who submitted nominating petitions to be on August 5 primary ballot. The top two-vote getters will advance to the November 4 ballot. laguilar@detroitnews.com This article originally appeared on The Detroit News: Detroit's first mayoral forum marks next step in race to succeed Mike Duggan

It was a packed house at last night’s NYC Mayoral Forum!

Lots of good ideas from the candidates on how to ensure NYC can lead on climate + address the intersecting issues of housing, public health, and racial justice.

Mayoral candidate @jessicaramosqns.bsky.social gets teary when 5 year old asks Ramos how she will protect her friend against ICE. In a poignant moment, Ramos says no child should have to do think about this. AMEN.
