Viktor eyed the jar, now explaining why it was so decorative. "So it's expensive?" Now he felt especially obligated to return it in one piece and demand that Mel get her money back. "It's priceless." The boy said. Viktor's heart dropped, as he may very well be carrying a years worth of his and Jayce's rent combined in his satchel. "It cannot be bought; it's considered sacrilege. It's a sacred declaration of care," he said. Viktor frowned at the jar. This gesture wasn't exactly unlike Mel, but the traditionality of it was...jarring. "It's not a courting ritual to give this, is it?" Mel had mentioned it - courting - once, very briefly, and Jayce had taken an interest to it. Viktor did not. He didn't see the point in indulging in the false pretenses that would have fallen in the time they had gotten to know each other. So it seemed they conspired behind his back and made him the courted. The boy blushed. "I can't say," he fiddled with his bag strap, "but my Mother gave it to my Father after they married and my sister did the same." He smiled down softly at the jar and then back up at the boy.

Tears sprang to his eyes. Everything felt like too much, but Mel was a singular point of light that shone like a beacon. She was just one thing, an easy thing to focus on. Jayce wrapped his arms around her tightly, pulling her close. His heart rate began to steadily decline alongside his breaths. He sat them up, face buried in her neck. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "You have nothing to apologize for," She said softly. "Fear is a survival tactic," Viktor said as he placed a tea bag into a steaming mug of water. In the midst of his panic, Jayce had missed the sound of Viktor heating water over the stove (never the microwave, Jayce remembered clearly how Viktor had called him a heathen for ever using the microwave for tea. "It is natural, and therefore not something to feel sorry about," He reassured. Warmth flooded Jayce's chest. Rationally, he knew Viktor was right. Nothing about fear was rational, though. Mel slowly extracted herself from his lap, and her warmth was instantly missed. Viktor walked over at his pace, cane in one hand and mug in the other. He handed it to Jayce, who took it without really thinking. The burn of the heated water in the mug was grounding. Color was slowly seeping out from the bag of herbs. Jayce watched as Viktor lowered onto the bed and began massaging the stiff sleep from his leg. Mel slid off the bed to help him with this. Jayce still felt frozen, but watching them complete a task that was routine between the three of them was soothing in a way. It was a short time before they were strapping Viktor into his brace.

Mel's smirk returns, and she walks right up into Jayce's space. "It sounds like a good time doesn't it?" She states, the look in her eye tells him she already knows his answer, even if he hasn't said it yet. "uh- well..." he stutters. "There's no reason to be embarrassed, Jayce." Mel purrs. She starts to circle him like a hawk. Viktor seems to take this as his cue to approach as well, walking over to stand in front of him as Mel presses up against his back. Jayce's breath picks up. 'Why don't you lie down on the bed Jayce?" He says, leaning in close to his face. So close, he's breathing the same air as Viktor. mm, yeah I- yeah ok," he stammers, shuffling backward to sit on the bed. Once seated, he scoots backward until he's nearly sitting against the headboard. Viktor comes around the side of the bed, shedding his shirt and pants. Mel is doing the same at the foot of the bed, revealing her gold silk undergarments.

Mel ran through the streets of the city, the heavy thud of the werewolf's feet on the pavement behind her. There didn't seem to be anyone else around. The part of her mind that could still think remembered that things could be eerie on Spectre Night. The words of her late mother were in Mel's ear, telling her to turn and face the creature that stalked her, to meet violence with violence and rip its throat out with her teeth. "That's not who I am," Mel said as she hit what seemed to be a dead end. She turned to face the werewolf, which drooled and snarled as it slowly approached her.
