An incredible vintage 1980s handmade ‘cocobolo’ Mexican rosewood box with inset sterling silver and enamel figural scene of tropical birds on branches designed by Antonio Castillo for Los Castillo of Taxco - at 14.5” by 10.75” by 3” high, this is the largest box by Los Castillo that I have in my collection, and the only example that I have seen employing this matte-surface enameling technique - marked at bottom “Los Castillo Taxco Mexico” with Antonio Castillo’s “TA-01” mark - I always wonder what these boxes were originally meant to hold, and this one is large enough to hold my tablet computer! NFS.
