European mole cricket (Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa). Their front legs are modified into digging legs, convergent like those of a mole. It was found during my last field trip with students from the University of Jena to Lake Trasimeno in Italy in June 2025.

Found on the front verandah. Sena told me “There is a cockroach!”. A moment of great shame for me as a parent. But isn’t it cute? #molecricket

モグラそっくりの形状と動き、能力をもつ前足です 水から出した直後なので触覚は水で張り付いています

細かな密な毛に覆われてるので水に沈むことなく高速で泳げます

翅があり飛ぶことが可能です 今頃が繁殖時期と思うので、この個体は繁殖相手を探して移動中だったのかもしれません

噛んだり刺したり液体を出すこともなく、ひたすら力強く手でもがいて逃げようとします（とても可愛らしい） 手はモグラ、全体の形状はシャコ、頭部はキリギリスに似てるように感じます

Gryllotalpa orientalis オケラ(mole cricket)がどこからか如雨露の中に飛んできてたようで、グルグル泳ぎ回る音で気が付きました
モグラそっくりの手に「収斂進化」という単語を思い出しつつ、噛むこともせず手で押すだけの動きがとにかく可愛らしくてしばらく眺めてから草だらけの空き地に逃がしました
