"You are not possessed," Morrigan told her. "Would you know if I were?" Alyss asked, a small trace of doubt beginning to rise in the back of her mind. The mage sighed softly. "If you wish to be certain," she said, "turn to face me a moment." Alyss frowned, questioningly, but turned so that she was facing the mage. Soon as she did, without warning and much too quick even for Alyss' sharp reflexes, the mage slapped her right across the face. "Ah! The fuck!" Alyss muttered. Granted, it hadn't been that hard of a blow, but it had stung nonetheless. "If a demon had been present it would have defended itself," Morrigan told her, straight faced. "You are not possessed." Alyss glared at the mage who, despite maintaining an iron-clad composure, she was certain had pulled this 'test' entirely out of her ass. "Why do I get the feeling you just wanted an excuse to fucking slap me?"
"You are not a mage," Morrigan repeated. "You have no connection to the fade where a demon could possess you as it would a mage. Is it within the realm of possibility for one such a yourself to be possessed? Probably so, but I can assure you it would not be as seamless as this." "Oh." "It does not excuse your insistence on touching potentially dangerous magical items, you fool." Alyss huffed and turned to rest her back against the wall again. "You wanted that book, didn't you?" Morrigan groaned. "Insufferable," she muttered, and took her leave from Alyss as well.
