The Spring winds keep blasting fiercely. Guess I’m doing resistance training every time I ride!

A selfie of me on my e-bike, Zaria. My thumb is pointed down to indicate it is not a good day to ride a bike. I am wearing a belted overall dress/skirt with clothespins holding the skirt part up to allow cycling to be possible.
Day 2 of #30DaysOfBiking #30DaysOfBiking2026 today. Honestly, I advise indoor cycling if possible. Weather will get worse. If you do need to ride a bike today, remember to go slow. Conditions are not friendly. #MSPCycleCast
It's very slippery still on Cleveland and Marshall Ave in St Paul and lots of rutted ice with mashed potatoes. Much better on the W River Pkwy, Franklin, Riverside, and Samatar Crossing. Separated bikeways infinitely better than painted bike lanes today. #mspcyclecast
Oh, I just realized I fumbled the tag. #MSPCycleCast

If you are thinking about riding a bike right now, I advise not to. Winds have already started to pick up. The attached video was when I was about 10 minutes from home by Bde Maka Ska.
Last night's snow is melty again. Probably fine without studded tires if careful. #mspcyclecast
Photo of a Bunch bike with 4 helmets in a protected bikelane. The background is very foggy.
It is foggy.

OK, #MSP bikey types - time to up our obstruction reporting game! #MSPCycleCast
Thanks for the heads up and I will take the bike with studded tires today just in case. #mspcyclecast
More and more of the streets, bike lanes, and paths are getting to dry pavement this morning. #mspcyclecast
A glass storefront reflects a bundled-up person standing beside a long red cargo bicycle on a snowy Minneapolis sidewalk. The rider wears a helmet, winter jacket, and gloves, checking a phone, with frost and snow visible on the ground and street behind them. An app overlay shows “TEMP −30°C,” the date (Fri, Jan 23), location Minneapolis, and ride stats: 2.73 miles, 20 minutes, and 59 feet of elevation gain, with a small route squiggle on the right.
It’s cold. Like, really cold.
Still biked.

Still similar as of an hour ago. It would make things so much better if @minneapolismn.gov and Mpls Park Board would go and plow the slush when it loosens up today so it doesn't keep refreezing into ruts. At least the lights on Samatar Crossing work again. #mspcyclecast
W River Pkwy path was covered in rutted slop that's freezing up tonight. Used the road instead because it's dry. Bike lane and south sidewalk are pretty good on Lake St Bridge. Lots of icy patches throughout as everything freezes up. #mspcyclecast
Sidewalks are AWFUL this morning.
Every property that had uncleared snow yesterday (vast majority near me) is now covered in 1-3” of slush &/or water. Bare concrete is sheer ice.
Wear waterproof boots, yak trax & plan for more of a workout given the difficulty of walking in slush.

Not great (but better than most today) partially cleared bikeway along Hennepin Avenue eastbound
Large deep water puddle in the Hennepin Avenue bikeway eastbound
Slushy sloppy soft icy mess for the #BikeCommute. #MSPCycleCast @cathywurzer.bsky.social #MorningAnnouncements
Freezing rain is ICE glazing everything a little bit. Studded tires required tonight #mspcyclecast
#mspcyclecast as of this evening:
Mendota Bridge rideable but somewhat sloppy
Hwy 5 St. Paul-Fort deck about 1" thick with slop and steps doable with cleats on.
Minnehaha Ave: Damp pavement w/ icy patch in lane. Parked cars or loose snow in bike lane.
Midtown Greenway 28th-33rd: Skim coat of snow.
Picture of a mostly cleared but still snowy bike path next to a street with multiple construction vehicles moving snow
Major snow clearing operations ongoing on Bryant Ave S near 46th. Even with current snowfall conditions should improve on the bikeway as they progress north
#MSPCycleCast
Lots of mashed potato snow pretty much everywhere except the main tire tracks on arterials in my corner of St Paul. #mspcyclecast
Only reliably bikeable with studs. Mashed potatoes forming in my corner of Highland Park but better than yesterday. #mspcyclecast
Biked to work today. Roads this morning were bumpy, the slush causing me to lose control of my bike. In some cases, I had to dismount because the snow was too high.
I rode home this afternoon. Better than this morning. Some roads were still slippery.
#mspcyclecast
Didn't go far but it's take the lane season and the tire tracks on Cleveland were icy with mashed potatoes everywhere else. Lots of loose snow on Prior and St Clair but it should either get packed down or get plowed within the next few hours. #mspcyclecast
I usually don’t post reports without someone riding on it first, but I figured just after a snowfall this would be helpful for some people. Be careful out there!

A B Line bus on Minnetonka Blvd
#mspcyclecast Minnetonka Blvd not plowed. Hennepin is plowed. Lyndale bridge next to I-94 is not plowed. 15th St is slippery.
The B Line can go into St. Louis Park today, as a treat.
It's probably going to be very icy this morning with the freezing rain until it can thaw. #mnwx #MSPCycleCast
The ride home was cold and slow, and the studded tires came in clutch. However, it wasn’t as slick as I thought it was going to be. #MSPCyclecast
