Our assistant entomology curator @fevziye.bsky.social is currently registering tiny flies 🪰 called 'fungus gnats'. Most of these species have larvae that feed on mushrooms 🍄. We have about 9,000 specimens @uu.se to upload in the database 😅, the largest collection in Sweden. #MuseumofEvolution
Every year, we celebrate at the #MuseumofEvolution the #birthday of 'Carl Peter #Thunberg', disciple of Linnaeus, born the 11th of Nov. 1743 in Jönköping, Sweden. He's such an important scientist, taking care of the Linnaeus collection, and donating his own rich collections. Grattis Carl Peter ! 🎂
Entomologist Fevziye Hasan from #MuseumofEvolution in Uppsala will give a presentation at the "Living Data" conference!
Congratulations to my student Ivan who's been carefully registering and labeling all of our #reindeer and #moose specimens in the #MuseumofEvolution collections! (and we have a lot in Uppsala so this was not easy). #Evolutionsmuseet
Amazing perfectly preserved trilobite "cemetery" from the mid-Silurian (430 Mya), recently acquired in our paleontological collections🇸🇪. #evolutionsmuseet #museumofevolution
Paleontologist from #MuseumofEvolution at Uppsala University🇸🇪 participates in the description of first ever soft tissue of a #plesiosaur. This revealed that marine reptiles, which lived during the age of dinosaurs and went extinct at the same time, had scales similar to those of modern sea turtles.
Never tired of being amazed by the birds of paradise from Papua New Guinea 🤩This is a male 'Arfak astrapia', living in the Arfak mountains in West Papua. Very little is know about its biology and behavior. #evolutionsmuseet #museumofevolution
The Russian #desman is semiaquatic mole with webbed feet and flattened tail. It lives in western Russia and Ukraine but according to a 2020 report, only 6,000 are left in the wild! This specimen from the 19th century belonged to #Thunberg, a student of Linnaeus. #evolutionsmuseet #museumofevolution
Today, a small Swedish🇸🇪 whale 🐋 skeleton came back to the collections after >100 years loan! Yes, it can happen 🙂 On the picture, you can see the skull being transported. #evolutionsmuseet #museumofevolution
Nothing beats some sponge DNA 🧬 sequence comparisons on a Wednesday morning 👨🔬 (and for the connoisseur, this is the cytochrome oxidase I gene, the most widely gene used for sponge molecular identification). #museumofevolution #evolutionsmuseet
Found in our museum collections a #viper snake from Greece that had been preserved in ouzo! #museumofevolution #evolutionsmuseet
It's that time of the year when Darwin is put on top of the tree 😊 #evolutionsmuseet #museumofevolution
