At this point, I'm only giving this garbage system attention in a series I haven't even kept up the best with besides the finishes because it'd feel weird if I didn't lol Round of 10 Exits: *Jake Garcia - He's shown improvement every year, but he's been pretty much invisible and just hasn't shown enough speed to go anywhere. *Kaden Honeycutt - I literally only remember him more because he has a fun name. Besides that, it's wild how unnecessary this whole round is even by NASCAR playoff standards. Round of 8 Exits: *Rajah Caruth - Basically identical to last year. One cool win and not much else to show signs of a run to Phoenix. *Tyler Ankrum - The Rockingham return win was cool, but again, he just hasn't had a very remarkable season besides that. *Grant Enfinger - I almost slotted him into the Championship 4 just for his Round of 8 hot streak last year, but while Grant's been good this year, he just hasn't had the speed to contend much for wins, and I don't know if he's got that streak in him from last year. *Chandler Smith - He has 2 wins and plenty of good finishes, but I just get the feeling things will go awry for him right before he can get to Phoenix.
Championship 4 (part 1): *Layne Riggs - Basically the same as Chandler, but I just feel like he'll hold on a bit better, especially with his better lead over the cutline to start. *Ty Majeski - Despite being the defending champion, he's been even quieter this year than he was last year with no wins so far (although honestly, I'm almost tempted to not hold that against drivers as much this year with how unstoppable Heim has been). But he's proven he can coast under the radar before just last year, and with how he clobbered the field at Phoenix once he got there, he's the kind of driver this field would not want to let get that far. *Daniel Hemric - Maybe my fanboy is showing here (he's been my favorite lower-series driver ever since that wild 2021 title run in Xfinity), but I just have the feeling that Hemric can get something good going. Not only did he finally return to Victory Lane at Martinsville (the last track before the finale, need I remind you), but in general, he's had his best season of racing since that title run. And some of the other drivers may have recent experience of being close to the Championship 4, but Hemric's been there and back again in a series with higher talent with multiple teams in a classic style of killin' 'em with consistency. (Less we forget he scored more points than anyone else in Xfinity in 2018 despite no wins and needed to point his way into the 2021 finale.) Xfinity is obviously different than Trucks, but I just get the feeling that Hemric has a good opportunity to at least return to the dance in what's been a solid comeback season.
Championship 4 (con't): *Corey Heim - Absolute no-brainer. One of the most dominant Truck Series seasons of all time in such a way that most of his own individual stats either surpass or at least rival the rest of the field combined, and that's not to mention his enormous points cushion. Pretty much the only concern is if Majeski is a threat at Phoenix again, although Heim did finish 2nd to him last year. Even so, this year's Heim is on a whole other level. And my pick for the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion is... Corey Heim (duh) - Obviously, it's the playoffs and things can go haywire, but this is one of those seasons where it'd genuinely be a crime if he didn't have a title at the end. Hell, at this rate, he's got more than a real chance to at least tie the all-time single-season wins record in the Truck Series at 7 wins with 7 races left. (Ftr the record belongs to Greg Biffle with 9 in 1999, also a 25-race season, although since he fell by just 8 points to 3-win Jack Sprague, the most wins by a champion was Mike Skinner in the inaugural 1995 season with 8.) Barring total disaster, it feels like this Halloween will be a better Heim Time than ever.
