On #ThisDayInHistory in 43 BCE, #MarcusTulliusCicero was killed. A #Roman statesman (#Cicero suppressed #CatilinarianConspiracy) & syncretic/#neoplatonic #philosopher, he backed #Pompey, so under the #SecondTriumvirate he was murdered, head and hands displayed publically in Rome.

A first #highlight from our virtual booth is this 1542 Lyon edition of Macrobius' classic #Neoplatonic commentary on the "Somnium Scipionis" (Dream of Scipio), the partially lost 6th book of Cicero's "De re publica".
That #Neoplatonic legacy is very much in evidence when contemporary #Wiccans talk about the divine. One popular formulation of deity in #Wicca is: “All Gods are One God, & all Goddesses are One Goddess, and both are One". This is a modification of attitudes found in ancient authors like Proclus.

One useful way of thinking about modern #Wicca is as a #Neoplatonic skeleton (attitudes to nature, magic, & correspondences echo those of Agrippa & Paracelsus), clothed in a body of late Victorian folkloric speculation. The body is held together by borrowings from Medieval #Solomonic ritual. 📚✨️
