This image has been on a journey. The original drawing for this is a Sketch Sessions drawing in an old sketchbook from 2000. That image was scanned in and color rendered in ArtFlow on a Google Nexus 7. That version was then pushed further using Sketchbook Pro 9 on a Surface Studio which is what you see here. In Affinity Designer, the background for the ArtFlow version was completely removed with no background artifacts. The colors and lines for the character were then cleaned up in Sketchbook Pro 9 due to foreground artifacts that were throughout from the original file having a lower resolution than the standards we use today. The background was recreated in Sketchbook Pro 9 as well. Most important, the palette was preserved. Artflow was excellent in part due to the default palette for that app (back then anyways, 2012/2013) was very similar to a classic 80's/early 90's anime palette which is essential for the project in recreating the feel from that era of anime. I tried recreating this project as a vector graphic using COPIC on Surface. It was good but not as good as the original ArtFlow palette. Even stripping the original's palette from the old output file in Affinity Designer didn't have the same feel. But Sketchbook Pro 9 came through like a champ. Great application, simple but straight to the point and powerful in its own right.

This illustration brings back good memories. Created on a Google Nexus 7 using ArtFlow and a Wacom Bamboo stylus, this project turned out better than I expected. It was during the shift to ArtFlow becoming my main creative application over Sketchbook Pro for increased stability although Sketchbook Pro never left the rotation. Those were good times, almost as good as the Amiga days of old.

This is from years ago when the Google Nexus 7 was popular. Sketchbook Pro was the best drawing application on the platform at the time and Wacom sold the best capacitive stylus for touch screens at the time with Bamboo. The tips weren't as durable as I'd like but they worked really well. Those were some great times.
