Two keys to #covercrop success are #faststart and #nogaps. This grower met the first by using a planter for seeding when other methods had failed. But the covercrop does not suppress weeds in the wide gaps between rows. That managent goal is met with herbicides.

Thanks for showing the importance of plant population. It is important to get both #nogaps and #faststart. Both can be compromised by too-heavy seeding, because the seedlings are stunted by competition.
Thank you! Buckwheat does not play well with others. Mixtures just get in its way. For summer in the Northeast, buckwheat is always the #1 weed suppressor. Often >99% suppression when growers can get a #Faststart #nogaps and #killontime.
Radish is a popular early fall #covercrop for weed suppression, biomass and perforating head soil layers. This stand did not get a good start, mainly grass competition. It did not deliver on those management goals. For success: #faststart and #nogaps
I didn't realize it at the time but this is the first photo that happened to show my new semi-fantastic mosquito defense system! A mosquito net!!
There's been a constant war of adjustment, to improve blocking versus intrusion, eliminate entrance spots. Buggers are frelling persistent!!! #NoGaps
