One more #notawhale before I go a-conferencing, but this whale is a "monstrous animal from Norway" that's not being very nice to the humans it found. My favorite part of this one is the annotations: not one but two manicules pointing to the whale! In case you missed it! (MIT Museum, AF-DI-0685)

Another edition of 'I don't know what that is, but I'm pretty sure it's #notawhale,' Ulisse Aldrovandi edition. I am sorry, but what on earth are those teeth supposed to be?!

This photo is one of several hand-colored sheets taken out of De piscibus libri V, et De cetis libri I (1613).

The entrance of messieurs Vroncourt, Tyllon, and Marimont on a whale, armed with silver armor, while in the middle of the waves of the sea. Arion rides next to them on another whale while strumming his lute.
