Track to the lookout point. Mākara beach faces the Cook Strait but this shot is to the northeast, so the land on the horizontal is (maybe) Mana island with Kapiti Island further in the distance.
This is a view of the grassy hill at the beginning of the walk. There is a track winding up the middle, through the grass, to the rockier terrain near the top.

Took advantage of the beautiful weather and walked along the Mākara beach track. It is a loop that goes along the cliff edge and then back along the rocky beach.

Went to the Lady Norwood Rose Garden in Wellington yesterday. Roses aren't usually my thing, but there were some really beautiful ones there, and my daughter loves the names.

The red and white light house at Cape Palliser, the southernmost point of the North Island of New Zealand. Lots of stairs to get up. There's even a viewing platform at the midpoint to stop for a breather.
Stopped to get some photos of the seals on the beach. Didn't even see this one at first, lying in the middle of the frame, looking like a well-fed log.
Hills rising to the left from the coastline. In the near-ground, the hardy grasses and other plants can be seen clinging to the rocky hillside. It is an exposed coast, and wind constantly throws sea spray into the air.
Visited Cape Palliser a couple of days ago. Dramatic landscape, seals -- wish I could have stayed longer.
