A lovely easy hike today through magnificent old forest to aptly named Lake Sylvan. This track has been closed for several years but now a new swinging bridge replaces the one washed away and track is in excellent conditiom. #NZtramping

Another sunny day for #NZtramping
A morning hike through old podocarp forest - amazing variety of flora. The Hollyford Conservation Trust is working to restore this area so lots of birdlife.

Then a jet boat ride up Lake Whakatipu Waitai to where it meets Tasman Sea and west coast beaches. 8km walk - and the sun came out! Tonight at Waitai Lodge. #NZtramping

Awoke to rain, but fortified by magnificent breakfast, set out for Alabaster Lake. An "interesting" wet stream crossing - bridge washed away during winter - and then I (cautiously) tackled NZ longest swing bridge.

Today we tramped 19.7km along Hollyford Trail through beech forests and ferns, past waterfalls, beside fast flowing aqua rivers, beneath snow capped mountains. Quite a few swinging bridges, lots of mud, some wet creek crossings - and no rain! #NZtramping

Flying into Queenstown NZ and an afternoon walk around Lake Wakatipu. Tomorrow we head to Te Anau for some #NZtramping along Milford Sound Track.

We’d been on the trail for nearly 8 hours the second day when this photo was snapped. An adventure into the hills is what my mate promised and delivered.

The Tararuas Pack can pack a punch but they are absolutely stunning!
