The Dart Glacier is mostly white, with some rocky bits to its left. It's in a glacial cirque and surrounded by snowy mountains underneath a mostly sunny sky. About as scenic as the best of the Canadian Rockies.

Just after sunrise at the Arrowtown Holiday Park, where they found us some overflow space (everything was full). There is a peak in the background and then some pink and orange clouds.

Aspiring Hut: a newly-rebuilt NZAC hut 2.5 hours' walk away from the Raspberry Creek carpark. Quite posh for a hut, with gas stoves and flush toilets. Also keas when we were there.

The track from Raspbery Creek to Aspiring Hut has a side track to Shotover Saddle, which we didn't take. There are some falls and cliffs on this track.

Going from Aspiring Hut up to Cascade Saddle, there is a pretty tame river crossing.

The Matukituki River and valley in light clouds. The valley itself is the green like grass, while the slopes are treed. You can see some snow on the mountains, barely.

Approaching Aspiring Hut (in the centre of the image, but small), there is one pole with an orange cap (for visibility), as well as the hut itself and two auxiliary buildings to the left.

Driving away from Wānaka, one can go towards Raspberry Creek and then Aspiring Hut in the Matukituki Valley. There are also a bunch of crags this way (not pictured). #tramping #hiking

Department of Conservation (Doc) has advised of the slip on the Dart Track, which is often done as a circuit with the Rees Track

Doc said the slip, in the Dart Valley between Daleys Flat Hut and Chinamans Bluff, had made the Rees-Dart circuit impassable for trampers.

Golden clouds over some hills for the post-work walk in on Friday night.

Sunset means it's going to get dark soon, so here is some tramping after dark while crossing a treefall. There are a bunch of horizontal logs and brush, as well as a number of headlights (mostly white, one red).

The summit of Mitre Peak the next day. Barely any clouds, but lots of wind. Vegetation is brownish, and so is the summit. It's above treeline, but it's vegetated, not rocky.

Bare tree roots in the forest. Mossy trees and other vegetation around.

The lights of Levin just after dusk, from Waiopehu Hut. The bottom of the picture is dark, and the top is dark blue sky. Between that, there is some residual sunlight to the left, and town lights centre.

A bit earlier, the sky is full pink, with the moon centred in the pictures. Olive-clad hills now are more fully visible at the bottom of the picture.

Even earlier, the sun is about an hour from setting over the horizon. The sky has no high clouds, but there looks to be some haze on the horizon. On the water, Kapiti Island is visible just above the hills of the Tararuas. The coastline is also visible off to the distance. Scrub and bush are visible on the Tararuas in foreground.

Another view of the Tararuas, but facing in a different direction, just a few minutes earlier than the previous picture. More trees on ridgelines. The topography isn't very high, but the terrain is rugged.
