Moving along the West Coast, here are some pictures from the Old Ghost Road, another multi-day tramp / mountain bike ride, with well-equipped huts along the way. #tramping #hiking #HutLife

The lights of Levin just after dusk, from Waiopehu Hut. The bottom of the picture is dark, and the top is dark blue sky. Between that, there is some residual sunlight to the left, and town lights centre.

A bit earlier, the sky is full pink, with the moon centred in the pictures. Olive-clad hills now are more fully visible at the bottom of the picture.

Even earlier, the sun is about an hour from setting over the horizon. The sky has no high clouds, but there looks to be some haze on the horizon. On the water, Kapiti Island is visible just above the hills of the Tararuas. The coastline is also visible off to the distance. Scrub and bush are visible on the Tararuas in foreground.

Another view of the Tararuas, but facing in a different direction, just a few minutes earlier than the previous picture. More trees on ridgelines. The topography isn't very high, but the terrain is rugged.

Side note about who was in Angelus Hut: the first night we were there it felt like there were a lot of not-Kiwis, including Canadians (not us), Americans (who had sailed to NZ), Germans, and French. The second night it was mostly Kiwis, including a group from the Motueka Tramping Club. #hutLife
