As I understand it, an Oak Apple gall of the gall wasp Biorhiza pallida, many developing on the oaks in Wandlebury Woods; formed after the wasp lays eggs inside leaf buds & the plant tissues swell as the larvae of the gall wasp develop inside

This curious 2.0" OD orb is called an "Oak Gall". They are abnormal plant growths found on many species of oak trees. They vary widely in shape. Galls are made of plant material and vary in colors of yellow, green and brown. Inside are LOADS 1-6 cm wasp larvae! 😊
