"They didn't see the real gold." - VOLKER LEHMANN, The Awakening, OBSESSIONS: Wild Chocolate #obsessions #VolkerLehmann

This might have been one of the first tries at this mask and, as these things usually go, it remains one of my favorites. Lynn (let's call her - she's now a lawyer somewhere fighting the good fight) took to it like she was born for it and I kinda liked the incongruity of the blonde ringlets peeking out from behind. Per my usual at the time (who am I kidding....STILL), I threw in some stripey lighting to make it even more confusing.

I've talked about this before but I've never found the perfect way to say it. I really want to make a NICE picture. I find something wonderful in the people I work with and I want to emphasize it and jump up and down and go "look! look! you're beautiful! LOOOOOOK!!!!" And then part of me is all "you dork - she KNOWS she's beautiful, let's fuck it up!" and I DO think that's more interesting in the long run. I go back and forth. I want something weird and strange and provocative but I also want something gentle and intimate and gorgeous. These really seemed to balance those impulses pretty well.

Part of the dichotomy is just the nature of nude art. Let's dress a girl up in lingerie and let her feign an orgasm on a hotel bed. Right?!? Or maybe not. I had a blast with my first attempt at a hotel shoot -- we played it up with a fur coat and then threw reels of recording tape all over and that, too, hit a balance between WTF and HOT. It's hard to avoid "hot" sometimes. I love working with "amateurs" (such as pejorative word) because the enthusiasm is really all you need. And I've had great luck with amateurs from the Red Robin hostess to friends of friends. But professionals bring so much and so rarely don't show up when you've rented a bunch of gear and a space that it's often way simpler to go that direction.

The thing about professionals is that they are typically TYPICAL. Often beautiful, perhaps strikingly or uniquely so, and quite often quite fit. I'm a broken record on my admiration for the touring art model tribe. Yadda yada yada -- they're awesome, smart and terribly interesting. Truth be told, though, I get a much bigger ego boost working with amateurs. Lynn here is a good example. She wasn't a model but was headed off to grad school and seemed to want to dive into her own body for a bit. We shot a half dozen times over the course of a summer and then she was off into the wilds of the world. The Red Robin hostess was without a doubt one of the sweetest humans I've ever met and I have great hopes for her to retain that outlook in the face of the world.

These forays into photography are forays into friendships, quickly intimate and intense, maybe a lot of giggling involved. I really value them because they are a shared adventure. A way to give people a look at themselves they may not otherwise have and a way for me to reimagine how I interact with people.

The Disney logo that symbolised China’s fight against Japan during WWII Japan’s aerial dominance in World War II was ended by volunteer US and British fighter pilots who protected Free China in planes bearing a Flying Tigers logo designed by Disney’s best and brightest.

Well knock me down with a feather. There is new internets content on this subject since I last looked. sc.mp/ndcs8

I was once obsessed with obsessions—couldn’t get enough of them. It was like an addiction, but portable.
If someone I knew was obsessing over something I wasn’t, I wanted, I had to have that obsession for myself.
I so was entrenched in envy, it became my new obsession, and the #envy of everyone I knew. I gave it up—the disentrenching being the most difficult thing I ever obsessed over. (ap·dt)

My passions outweigh my #obsessions because most of them are food-related.

I don't drink. I survived all the #obsessions. They are gone. There is #freedom. I did #fight for it.
You can see where this is going.
You have to #stand up and you have to #fight. If you don't, that is #tacit #cooperation. I do not fuck around. Balls and strikes.

This is my new zine! I wanted to throw myself a pity party but tried not to and this is what came of it. I sorta cited one source the rest are from my brain. OCD SUCKS!

The Journey Of All 1,091 U.S. Roller Coasters Ends With A Toot Around The Track Rick Mathews has spent most recent weekends driving thousands of miles. Sometimes he flies somewhere and then drives. Sometimes he has several flights in a weekend between all that driving. This was what was required during the home stretch of his years-long quest to ride every roller coaster in the United States. On Sunday, Mathews hit his goal. His ride on a kiddie coaster at Yesterland Farm in Canton, Texas, was No. 1,091. Mathews has now been on every roller coaster in the country that allows adult riders. His ride on the Road Trip Roller Coaster was not supposed to be where he finished his mission, but plans change on a journey of this size and scale. Mathews wanted to end in Texas, where his project began; he did, but not the way he’d planned it. Austin's Circuit of the Americas is building an amusement park adjacent to the race track, and unexpectedly announced that a roller coaster in that park, Circuit Breaker, would open for ticket holders during the F1 race last weekend. So Mathews’ flight to Dallas was followed by a three-hour drive to Austin. He bought an F1 ticket, rode Circuit Breaker, then drove back up. The limited operating hours of Yesterland Farm meant he’d have to save his last ride for Sunday. Road Trip Roller Coaster would be the final one.

Today's artwork captures a moment of ethereal connection,
a figure in a flowing robe reaching for the crescent moon,
surrounded by green curtains and twinkling stars.
