Page 1/title page:
Grandma Jean zine starts with the title page which started with white cardstock, but layered on it with various printing techniques is a wave motif and the phrase “GMA” in all caps stamps around the whole border. There are little colorful stars all around the pages. In the middle is a linocut carved stamp saying “Grandma Jean <3” in cursive and in the right lower corner is an old 200s photo of my grandma with auburn hair tanner white skin, sunglasses, and a pink top. Next to her is my brother who is rather young wearing a green shirt, sunglasses, and a cap and lanyard, he is pale and white. I am next to the two of them and wearing a teddy bear mickey hat and pink outfit. I am pre transition in this photo and others in this zine so I look more feminine at times.
Page 2 and 3:
Says “Grandma Jean Mickow is so loved and always will be with her loved ones!!!” In all capital stamped letters. These are on the same background as the first page. This time there is a photo in the left hand lower corner of Grandma Jean more recently as she is older with gray hair glasses and a pink rain jacket. Her hair is pulled back.
Page 4 and 5:
Says “she is silly, kind, witty, caring, straight forward, loving, strong willed, and smart!” With the same background as previous pages. On the bottom left corner is a picture glued of her in silly sunglasses sipping juice from a hospital bed. She has oxygen going to her nose and her hands look bruised.
Page 6 and 7:
“She loved her trips, family, pets, and especially NCIS!” The background is the same as previous pages. This time there are two photos taking up the entire bottom half of the pages. One is of me, my brother, and grandma, on a trip to the largest sculpture garden in the world in South Dakota. We are all standing with our arms open, grandma holding onto a golf cart, with large abstract creatures around us and tall grass all around. The other photo is black and white and more current, this photo shows me much larger, Zack much taller, and grandma much thinner and sicker looking. I have a buzz cut as well we are all close together taking the photo with Zack bending down to be near grandma and I sitting. I am also on my rollator.
!!!Trigger warning!!! Grief!!!
I lost my grandma this summer and while I made this much earlier because of other priorities or my own putting it off I just haven’t posted it yet. I loved my grandma very much
