Two Mosaic Records Box Sets purchased this week - Lester Young with Count Basie and The Savory Collection. The first is quite spooky at times - Lester’s tone weirdly seems to presage Coltrane’s for a phrase here and there. And what I’d give to be able to sing like Jimmy Rushing… The Savory Collection is a fascinating story - unique radio recordings made onto discs by an audio engineer jazz fan during the 1930s which were finally released by Mosaic after his death.
Give an #oldperson a week’s wages and he immediately looks on eBay to see if there are any #MosaicRecords #boxsets at below Discogs prices. If the OAP in question is me, at least. This week two that I’ve wanted for a while, #LesterYoung with #CountBasie and #TheSavoryCollection were quickly grabbed.
