Cathedral, factory, tsar Sky sets the spotlight on stage Moscow plays its part Sometimes the sky decides to become a director. On February 6, 2016, walking from Muzeon to Krymskaya Embankment, I witnessed a theatrical performance where clouds were the set designers and a rare beam of winter sun was the lighting technician. On this stage, three main actors: on the left, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, a silent witness to history; in the center, "Red October," snatched from the gloom by a ray of light like the protagonist of a drama; on the right, Tsereteli's 98-meter Peter the Great, frozen in anticipation of applause. Between them flows the Moskva River, the connecting thread of time. Above them, gloomy clouds create the perfect contrasting backdrop. And one ray of light that turns an ordinary cityscape into a theatrical stage. The black-and-white Adox Silvermax 100 film enhances the drama, removing unnecessary colors and leaving only the play of light and shadow. The Olympus μ[mju:]-II captured the moment when the sky decided to put on a show. Moscow is always a multi-layered performance. Silver birch trees stand in front of a white wall hiding a mysterious house. Yellow leaves are scattered over the grassy road verge.

Hidden house. I often drive past this house, hidden behind its white wall, and it's always seemed fascinating and mysterious. It's very tricky to get a satisfying photo though. This seems about the closest so far.

Circus Lane 1. A mews street, built for chauffeurs and staff of the big houses of Royal Circus. It's also one of the most photogenic streets in Edinburgh.

A path leads down a hill between slopes of rough, tawny grass before splitting; one half leads towards a small loch, or lake, surrounded on 3 sides by autumnal trees, while the other leads towards midleft, passing behind the trees. Tiny white dots are visible on the loch, these are swans. There used to be dozens of them (so we called this the Swan Pond), but a few years ago numbers were greatly reduced. Near the left hand horizon is part of a strange green structure, which is the football ground.

Holyrood Park 2, St Margaret's Loch. This path continues the one on the left in yesterday's photo. For those interested, the Easter Road stadium of Hibernian football club (Hibs) is visible on the left!

Colour photo taken in hilly terrain, the foreground sunny. People walk on a path on the right, disappearing mid right up some rocky steps. Another path branches off towards the centre, disappearing over a small foreground grassy hill. Mid right is a steep hill, mostly in shadow; the ruined tower of St Anthony's Chapel stands out against the sky (which is mostly white clouds against blue)

Holyrood Park: the path to Arthur's Seat. Worth remembering this is a pocket camera, this film was in camera for 5 months.

Bare winter trees look golden in the late afternoon sun, and are reflected in the frozen (but slightly thawed) surface of Abbey Lake. The sky above has dark clouds with a pale blue break in them.

Colour photo of a small lake with trees behind, lit from the left by the afternoon winter sun. There are birds standing on the lake, indicating that it is frozen but has thawed slightly. The lake is slightly in shadow, but reflects the sunlit trees. Hints of thin clouds in the pale sky.

I missed this roll of #Kodak200 from my #OlympusMju2. It's always in my jacket pocket, and when I'm out with black & white film and colour is called for, out it comes. I'm getting slightly better results now I remember to turn off flash in lower light frames! […]
